Juliet Fox: Embracing motherhood and redefining success in music

THE JOURNEY AS A PREGNANT DJ

Touring while pregnant is a rare feat in the music industry. How has this experience reshaped your perspective on your career and your role in the industry?

It’s actually been a super interesting time touring while pregnant, especially over a busy summer period. It's forced me to recalibrate my approach to both my career and my physical limits. I’ve always been about pushing boundaries, with late nights, socialising at events, and staying up later than I needed to. But now it’s about balancing strength and caring not just for my own body but for a little human growing inside. I had to learn how to incorporate resilience, navigating these new challenges into what I do and all that surrounds my love of music. I'm constantly learning how to listen to my body, to adapt without losing that drive and keep succeeding, as well as now allowing my role to evolve from not just being an artist, but to also being a voice for other women in the industry, proving that we can do it all, even with a little one on the way.

Can you share any unexpected joys or challenges you’ve encountered while performing during your pregnancy?

The last 6 months was about recreating myself in the way that I performed and approached my shows. Obviously being completely sober, this took on a whole different focus and approach to each gig and the way I mixed, which in turn made me actually connect to the music and the crowd in a totally different way despite the physical changes. There’s a sense of magic in those sets, where I’ve realized that being pregnant doesn’t slow me down; it brings a new kind of energy and where I am constantly thinking about th life growing inside of me, also while staying connected to the crowd. On the other side of it all, the challenges are real—there’s the physical toll, the exhaustion from long travel, and sometimes the worry about pushing myself too hard. But at the end of the day, it’s worth it because I’m not just performing for myself; I’m paving the way for other women to see that they don’t have to choose between their passion and motherhood and you can find the balance in it all.

REDEFINING WOMEN'S ROLES IN MUSIC

The music world has traditionally demanded a non-stop pace. How are you balancing the demands of touring with this new chapter in your life?

The balance is constantly evolving. I’ve had to prioritize my health and mental well-being while still honoring my commitments to my fans. I have always had a high natural energy, so this has definitely helped a lot, but most of it has been keeping my mind and body strong at all times. I’m learning to be flexible, to take breaks when needed, and to lean on my team more than ever. It’s a learning curve, but I’m embracing the fact that I don’t have to be “non-stop” to make a meaningful impact. I’m showing that women can redefine what success looks like in this industry, and we don’t have to burn out to thrive.

Have you noticed any shifts in how the industry, fans, or colleagues perceive or support you during this time?

The support has been overwhelmingly positive, and I think it’s a reflection of the growing recognition that women in this industry can and should be allowed to have these experiences with pregnancy, motherhood, the entire spectrum of womanhood without it being seen as a hindrance to their career. My fans have been incredibly understanding, and I’ve had so many colleagues reach out, offering advice, encouragement, and sending positive comments. Of course having children doesn’t connect to all in the music industry, and maybe it's not until you have one of your own that you really understand (including myself now) as it opens a whole new world. There’s a sense of community now that wasn’t always there before, and I think the conversation around women in music is finally shifting in a way that feels empowering.

MAINTAINING WELLNESS ON TOUR

Touring can be physically and mentally draining. What are your go-to practices for maintaining wellness and energy while traveling and performing pregnant?

Touring can be challenging on its own, and it definitely requires a good balanced approach with mindfulness and discipline, pregnant or not. Before being pregnant I was always quite good at getting out on a run or using the hotel gym at least once over a weekend of gigs. So since I’ve made it a priority to stay active with gentle yoga, light weights, and stretching - nothing too intense, but enough to keep my body feeling strong and aligned. Staying hydrated is key, and I also make sure to get enough rest, prioritizing naps before or after gigs. Mentally, I practice breathing exercises, meditation and listen to frequencies to stay grounded and centered. I have always been pretty healthy with my food choices, so I took this to another level of eating really well and planning ahead to make sure I had enough food on tour or for when I arrived at the hotel (I always have a snack bag with me haha) to fuel my body and my growing baby.

Are there specific changes you've made to your routines, diet, or schedule to adapt to your pregnancy?

To be honest I had no idea about being pregnant, what foods I could eat or what to expect, as I hadn’t been around anyone else that had been pregnant in a very long time. So I started to read up as much as I could, listening to podcasts, and basically googling everything. I’m making sure I’m getting enough vitamins, especially folic acid and iron, which are so crucial during pregnancy. In terms of routines, I think this is the first year I have actually maintained sleeping 8 hours a night lol. It meant adjusting my schedule and taking a bit of extra time before and after shows. I’m also making sure to slow down when needed, embracing rest and not overbooking myself. Pregnancy has forced me to really listen to my body, and I’ve become much more in tune with what I need physically and mentally.

REPLENISHING AND RECOVERY

How do you replenish your body and mind between performances?

Recovery is essential for keeping my energy up, and I’m very intentional about it. I focus on hydrating, eating nourishing meals, and taking time to rest. I also do a lot of stretching to release tension, and make sure I get lots of movement. Mentally, I make space for reflection with journaling or just taking a few quiet moments to reset. Connecting with nature whenever I can, even just a walk or some fresh air, also helps clear my head. I’ve learned that recovery doesn’t just happen physically; it’s about nurturing your mind and soul too.

What advice would you give to other women in demanding professions about self-care during pregnancy?

My advice is to be unapologetically kind to yourself. Pregnancy is a lot of work on its own, and when you’re balancing it with a demanding career, it can feel overwhelming. But you don’t have to do it all at once. Prioritize rest, listen to your body, and delegate when you can. Surround yourself with a strong support system and don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it. Most importantly, trust yourself, you’ve got the strength to navigate both your career and your pregnancy. There’s no one-size-fits-all formula, so find what works for you and own it!

SUPPORT SYSTEMS

Have you leaned on any particular resources, tools, or individuals during this period? How has your team or family supported you in navigating these dual roles?

My main support has been my partner from day one, he’s been my rock. I’m actually so fortunate that we work together so in the last few months especially he has been on tour with me for each show and has supported me in every way. My team has also been incredibly understanding and flexible, offering help with logistics, and always checking in to make sure I’m okay. Not to mention my family, and close friends. But overall I have really enjoyed embarking on this journey on my own, and building a strong connection to my growing baby, feeling and understanding every stage of the pregnancy and following my intuition.

TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

This year has been incredible for you with performances at top festivals and venues worldwide. Are there any standout moments that felt particularly meaningful or unique during your pregnancy?

There were actually a lot of incredibly special moments this year, as I got to play at some amazing festivals I hadn’t before. Performing while pregnant added a whole new level of meaning to every set especially before everyone knew, it was like I was playing music especially for my son. But I think it became even more reflective when I was showing, and everyone knew, to see how excited everyone was for me and would dance around the booth with me like we were celebrating. One moment that stands out was playing at a festival just as the sun was setting, feeling the energy of the crowd while being so in tune with the changes happening in my own body. It felt like a perfect balance of power and vulnerability.

THE FUTURE AND LEGACY

As you plan for 2025 and beyond, what aspirations or goals do you have for your music career and personal life?

For 2025, I want to continue evolving both as an artist and a person. My little man is due late January and I couldn’t have asked for a more aligned date, to start the year in the most perfect way. Musically, I’m looking to keep krafting my sound, continue collaborating with other artists, and signing new up and coming producers to my label, TREGAMBE. I want to keep pushing boundaries in ways that feel true to who I am now. Personally, I’m focused on finding a healthy balance between family life and my career, which I think will only enrich my creative output. I also want to use my platform to inspire other women to chase their dreams without compromising who they are. My goal is to continue to break barriers and redefine what it means to be a woman in the industry.

What message do you hope to send to other women about redefining possibilities in their careers and lives?

My message to other women is simple: don’t let anyone tell you what you can’t do. You are the writer of your own journey, and there’s no one right way to live your life or have a career. Redefine success on your own terms. Whether it’s balancing motherhood with your career, exploring new creative avenues, or simply being true to yourself, it’s all possible. Never let fear or societal expectations hold you back from pursuing the life you envision for yourself <3

INDUSTRY AND IMPACT

Do you feel your journey is contributing to shifting conversations around women’s roles in music, especially regarding motherhood?

I feel that my journey is helping to shift the conversation, and although I am not the first I think it's important to continue what's been started. Women in music have always faced the challenge of balancing career and family, but now more than ever, the conversation is changing. My journey is proof that it’s possible to do both, without compromising either. By sharing my story, I hope to create a space where women can openly discuss the challenges and joys of motherhood in the music industry, without shame or judgment. Im super excited for this next chapter in my life, and to continue to take you all on this journey with me.

What changes would you like to see in the industry to better support female artists balancing family and career?

I’d love to see this support for women only grow stronger.. The industry needs to recognize that motherhood doesn’t diminish a woman’s ability to perform or create. There should be more resources available to help women balance their careers with family life, and more awareness around pregnancy and touring life. It’s about creating an environment where women are supported at every stage of their journey, and the industry sees the value in that balance and female energy.

MESSAGE FOR YOUR FANS

Your fans look up to you not just as an artist but as a pioneer navigating this unique journey. What message or advice would you like to share with them?

To my fans and everyone, I want to say: thank you for being part of this journey with me. Your support means the world, and I hope my story inspires you to pursue your passions, no matter the challenges. Life’s journey is never linear, but it’s in those twists and turns where we find our greatest strength. Whether you’re chasing a career, raising a family, or just navigating life’s hurdles, remember that you have the power to define your path. Keep pushing forward, stay true to yourself, and never forget, you’re not alone in this.
