Lefto Early Bird teases upcoming album with enigmatic new single ‘Electric’ ft Aint About Me
With an LP on the way next month, the Brussels-based DJ releases his second single on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings
Revered DJ and radio host Lefto Early Bird is back with his sublime new track ‘Electric’ featuring Berlin-based spoken word artist Aint About Me, out on 9th February.
Setting the scene for Lefto’s upcoming album Motherless Father out on 8th March, ‘Electric’ is a brooding masterstroke, centred around woozy synths and Ain't About Me’s meditative spoken word vocal over a bass-heavy groove. Capped off with an elegant piano breakdown, Lefto Early Bird has crafted another masterpiece with this latest release.
“Electric is about that feeling you get sometimes in the club, in a dark space, a rave, where anything can happen at any time.” Lefto explains. “A place where the atmosphere can quickly switch, hence the switch in the middle of the song, it’s calm but also dramatic somehow…”
The track follows last month’s release of ‘I Sing To Find Peace of Mind’, a future-faring journey through uptempo jazz featuring saxophone from DJ and multi-instrumentalist Simbad.
Like many of his generation, Lefto has gained a global following because of his radio shows. Broadcasting on the likes of Kiosk Radio, The Lot Radio and the late Worldwide FM from his base in Brussels and several shows on NTS, he's become an international beacon of good taste whether dropping jazz, electronica, techno and house or hip hop.
Appearing as a special guest on live shows from Robert Glasper, Thundercat and touring with Badbadnotgood just to name a few, he’s been praised for being consistently ahead, devoted to the future of music, not waiting for the next thing — he seeks it out.
No wonder he is affiliated to many international labels like Brownswood Recordings, Ninja Tune, R&S Records, Boiler Room and Red Bull Music. Lefto’s biggest personal achievement is a remix album for Blue Note, but he also released productions on International Anthem, Heavenly Sweetness, Bastard Jazz Records, has a Serato record, and curated compilations for Gilles Peterson, Universal, BBE and SDBAN.
Famed for taking his crowd on a journey from Jazz to anything he likes, and blessing sound systems around the globe with regular nights in Japan, South-Korea, USA and Europe, he also curates his own nights in Belgium, is a resident at Horst Festival and hosts a stage at one of Belgium’s biggest festivals, Dour Festival.
Lefto will be hosting a variety of album launch parties in Amsterdam, Belgium and London to celebrate the release of the album, where he will perform the highly anticipated project live.
