Spacer Woman

With her unique blend of progressive house, hard house, and trance influences, Spacer Woman is a name that has been making waves in the electronic music scene. Based in Berlin, she has successfully merged a range of inspirations, from Turkish musical traditions to club culture’s most electrifying elements. Her latest track, "You Make Me Feel Wild" with PALMU, is an embodiment of her bold and fearless artistic vision, while her forthcoming EP on the Agrio label promises to take her creative journey to even greater depths.

In this interview, Spacer Woman opened up about the inspiration behind her music, the influence of Berlin’s dynamic club scene, and the deep personal bond she has to her Turkish roots. She also reflected on the importance of representation in electronic music, her experiences and having the support of renowned artists such as Patrick Topping, and Amelie Lens.

Also, Marlon Hoffstadt, who has played a major role in Spacer Woman’s career over the past year and a half, supporting her on all fronts, from production, to promotion, releases label and major deals.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS BEHIND "YOU MAKE ME FEEL WILD"

"You Make Me Feel Wild" is an exuberant, flirtatious, and high-energy track, perfectly capturing the summer festival experience. Spacer Woman shared that the song was inspired by people’s electrifying connection on the dance floor. She paints a vivid picture of how the song came about:

"The creative process started during the summer when I envisioned a festival dance floor in the heat, with sunlight reflecting on people’s faces as they lost themselves in the music."

The track was influenced by Janis Zielenski & MALUGI’s "Take it Back," which helped shape its uplifting and melodic direction. PALMU’s unresistible energy was a crucial element in bringing the song to life:

"She has this incredible diva attitude that adds a feminine, strong, and fearless touch while keeping the energy fun and uplifting."

For Spacer Woman, this track represents more than just a feel-good anthem—it’s about channeling powerful feminine energy that creates an immersive dance floor experience.

ARTISTIC IDENTITY AND EVOLUTION

Spacer Woman’s artistic journey has been one of constant exploration. She acknowledges the internal struggle many artists face in choosing a singular musical direction but embraces the idea that multiple identities can coexist within her work.

"Like many artists, I also go through the struggle of questioning which direction to go in. But I'm realizing that many sides of me can co-exist simultaneously, and there's no harm in reflecting that in my music."

Her Berlin residency has provided her with an empowering community that nurtures this fluidity. She credits the city's FLINTA DJ network for shaping her vision and approach to music, allowing her to learn from and blend influences from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s pop seamlessly into her productions.

THE IMPACT OF REPRESENTATION AND SUPPORT FROM INDUSTRY LEADERS

Few moments in an artist’s career rival the thrill of being acknowledged by the very icons who once inspired them from the dancefloor. For Spacer Woman, the support of industry titans like MALUGI, Patrick Topping, and Amelie Lens has been nothing short of surreal—a full-circle moment that reaffirms her artistic path.

“I was dancing to Patrick Topping’s track ‘Forget’ in Istanbul’s club scene, and now having his support on ‘Never Leave You’ was something 20-year-old me would have never believed!” she recalls, still amazed by the journey.

But it wasn’t just about validation—it was a lesson in perseverance. When Amelie Lens championed her track Shake That Ass, it reignited her faith in the creative process, an important crucial reminder that true artistry isn’t measured in numbers alone.

“As an artist, you become very attached to your work, and it can make you vulnerable. Amelie's support was a reminder to trust the process—it’s not always about numbers or immediate recognition.”

But above all, Marlon Hoffstadt has played a pivotal role in Spacer Woman’s journey over the past year and a half. It began with Surf 2 Glory, where he was among the earliest champions of Never Leave You, propelling the track forward and introducing her to the Club Heart Broken crew. Each time he played it, anticipation grew—her inbox flooded with requests before its release. She still vividly remembers the first time the crowd chanted along to the ‘O-oh, o-oh’ refrain.

Beyond his support on stage, Marlon has been a mentor, guiding her through releases, labels, and deals. His encouragement during You Make Me Feel Wild led her to explore vocal collaborations, elevating her sound. More than industry advice, his unwavering artistic vision has been a source of inspiration, helping her navigate creative doubts. While recognition from big names is meaningful, Marlon’s influence has been deeply personal, shaping not just her career, but her artistic identity.

Moments like these fuel the fire, proving that dedication, authenticity, and passion will always find their way to the right ears.

THE PERSONAL SIGNIFICANCE OF HER FORTHCOMING EP

Spacer Woman’s upcoming EP on Agrio is a deeply personal project, integrating elements of her Turkish heritage with contemporary club sounds. One of the tracks, "Moonlight Dance," is among the first she ever produced, marking an important milestone in her artistic development.

"It’s pure identity, no holding back, and dives into my Turkish personality."

She elaborates on the cultural influences embedded in her music:

"The darbuka plays a significant role, serving as the main percussion element and complementing my tracks with Middle Eastern rhythmic influences. Alongside it, the flute and oud further enrich the sound, deepening the connection to these musical traditions."

The decision to incorporate Turkish vocals on “Show You The Way” adds another layer of personal and artistic depth. While it comes with a sense of vulnerability, she believes it will resonate with listeners who share a similar cultural background.

RETURNING TO ISTANBUL AND THE FUTURE OF HER SOUND

Performing at Boiler Room in Istanbul will be an emotional homecoming for Spacer Woman. She acknowledges the challenges the Turkish club scene faces due to political factors, making her upcoming set even more meaningful.

"Istanbul’s club scene is where I had my first experiences, and now, returning to celebrate with people who are longing for great club nights—especially after everything the scene has endured due to politics—feels absolutely priceless."

Spacer Woman is eager to continue her sonic exploration. She emphasizes the importance of giving creativity the freedom to evolve organically, without the constraints of industry expectations.

"By embracing this ‘free space,’ I’m allowing ideas to grow organically, creating music that feels deeply intuitive and uniquely personal."

MY THOUGHTS

My conversation with Spacer Woman was an inspiring deep dive into the mind of an artist who is not only passionate but also deeply committed to self-expression. She refuses to be confined by genre or expectation, allowing her sound to evolve naturally, shaped by personal experiences and cultural heritage.

Her reflections on the creative process, representation, and the delicate balance between artistic vision and commercial pressures highlight her true depth as an artist.

For her, music is about storytelling—about connecting people, capturing emotions, and creating shared experiences on the dance floor. Spacer Woman’s journey reminds us that music is not just about sound; it’s about identity, heritage, and courage. Her upcoming EP promises to further solidify her place in the electronic music scene, pushing and inspiring others along the way.

As she prepares to return to Istanbul and bring her sound to new audiences, one thing is clear: Spacer Woman is not just producing music—she is shaping the future of club culture in her own fearless and authentic way.
