Romain Poncet Reinvents Himself as Amine Laje

It’s not every day that a DJ-producer known for filling massive dancefloors pivots towards something more intimate and deeply personal. Yet, Romain Poncet, widely recognized as Traumer, is doing just that with his new alias, Amine Laje. This bold reinvention marks a fresh chapter for the Parisian artist, embracing an entirely different sonic landscape—one deeply rooted in jazz, introspection, and a love for storytelling through music.

For over a decade, Traumer has been an integral figure in the Parisian electronic music scene, with a presence at legendary venues like Rex Club and Concrete. His releases on influential labels such as Tresor cemented his reputation as a master of groove-driven, hypnotic techno. His sound dominated festival circuits and top clubs worldwide. But behind the pulsing basslines and peak-time anthems, there was always another side to Romain—one that sought a more nuanced and emotional musical expression.

That side has now come to the forefront with Amine Laje, an alias that signals a profound artistic transformation. His debut album, Datsha, set to release on March 20, is a culmination of this shift. Conceived during lockdown retreats in the countryside with close friends, the project took inspiration from an ambitious venture led by his friend Alexandre—the opening of Datsha Restaurant in Paris, a unique space merging fine dining with curated music experiences.

The album embodies this vision, featuring jazz-infused trip-hop meticulously crafted to complement an equally sophisticated culinary journey. Chef Alexia Duchêne was brought in to develop a menu that pairs seamlessly with the five-hour soundscape drawn from Romain’s vault of 60 newly produced tracks. The result is a holistic sensory experience that transcends the boundaries of traditional electronic music.

Beyond the music, this project holds a deeply personal significance for Romain. The alias Amine Laje itself is a tribute to a close friend, embodying themes of camaraderie, togetherness, and resilience. It’s a project born out of shared experiences, marking a departure from the high-energy world of club techno to something more introspective and timeless.

With Datsha, Amine Laje offers a glimpse into the endless possibilities of artistic evolution. For fans of Traumer, this new journey may come as a surprise—but it’s one that promises to be just as immersive and inspiring as his past work.
