Xenia has become a prominent figure in the industrial techno scene, known for her dark, aggressive sounds and dynamic performances. Hailing from a rich musical background and deeply connected to underground culture, her rise has been marked by a relentless drive for innovation. From early acid techno roots to harder, more industrial sounds, Xenia’s evolution reflects her passion for pushing boundaries and creating something truly unique. As a producer, DJ, and founder of her own label, Fire Mode, she’s established herself as a leading artist and a curator of cutting-edge techno.

In this exclusive interview, Xenia shares her creative process behind some of her iconic tracks, including the standout “Mitsubishi” and the powerful “Paranoia.” She opens up about the personal experiences and inspirations that shape her sound, from late-night conversations in Barcelona to experimenting with new equipment in her home studio. Xenia’s insight into the journey of creating music reveals the depth of thought and emotion that goes into every beat, melody, and performance.

Beyond the music, Xenia also discusses the significance of founding her label, Fire Mode, and her aspirations to leave a lasting impact on the industrial techno scene. With major upcoming performances at events like ADE and a packed fall tour schedule across Europe and South America, Xenia is shaping the sound of the moment and forging a legacy. This article takes a closer look at her artistic journey, her vision for the future, and the raw passion that fuels her every move.

Throughout this conversation, Xenia opens up about the personal and professional milestones that have shaped her career thus far. She talks about the challenges of balancing touring and studio time, the joy of vinyl releases, and the importance of continually evolving her sound. Her story is one of dedication, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of the next big thing—qualities that define her not only as an artist but as a visionary in the ever-evolving world of industrial techno.

The inspiration behind “Mitsubishi,” one of Xenia’s standout tracks, emerged from a personal and spontaneous conversation she had with someone she met at a club in Barcelona.

“My friends and fans kept bringing up my Mitsubishi logo tattoo, and that sparked the inspiration for this track. It all started from a deep conversation I had with someone I met at a club in Barcelona. We talked all night about nightlife, raving, and the fun of it all—and why I have this tattoo. That conversation became the heart of the track, and I spent months working on it, tweaking details, and making changes.”

She goes on to explain how this personal exchange translated into the music.

“The melody came alive when I borrowed a Novation Peak from a friend and had it at home for about a week. I was blown away by its beautiful sounds and loved experimenting with it. I put a lot of effort into layering the kick and shaping the conversation in the track to be clear, yet a little mysterious—so listeners could get lost in it and then find their meaning. That’s the magic of art for me.”

When Xenia premiered “Mitsubishi” during her set in Barcelona, the track wasn’t fully completed, yet the crowd’s reaction was unforgettable.

“Then, when I opened my set in Barcelona last April with this track, even though it wasn’t fully finished, the crowd’s reaction was incredible. I felt this special connection while playing it. That moment made me realize I had to finish it—it had a vibe that was too strong to ignore.”

Discussing her track “Paranoia,” which was featured on the Iron Heat vinyl under her label Fire Mode, Xenia reflects on its organic creation and the sonic vision behind it.

“I wasn’t trying to convey anything specific with ‘Paranoia.’ Like most of my tracks, it came from just going with the flow in my home studio. I was messing around with the keyboard, playing short, repetitive, dark but energetic melodies. Then, I tried one of them with a preset called ‘Paranoid Lead’ from one of my favorite virtual synths, and it just clicked.” The simplicity of the track was intentional, as she wanted the focus to remain on the rave-like melody. “I loved how raw and powerful it sounded, and the energy was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to keep the track simple so the focus stayed on that rave-like melody, so I only added a heavy kick and some driving, industrial, and breakbeat drums.”

For Xenia, Fire Mode isn’t just about the music—it’s about creating an inclusive community.

“Besides breaking the boundaries of industrial techno and putting out cool tracks, I also want to create parties and build an open community where any talented artist can join and bring something new and special to the world of electronic music. For me, the label is also a way to connect with my favorite producers, play their tracks in new places, and share them with the world.”

As for the legacy she hopes to build, Xenia aims for something long-lasting.

“I hope to build something that’s remembered for both great, unique music and unforgettable memories from the parties we’ll create.”

Looking ahead to her upcoming performance at ADE, one of the most prestigious events in electronic music, Xenia is filled with excitement rather than pressure.

“I’m beyond excited to play at ADE this year for the Verknipt event on Sunday. I’ve played a smaller show at ADE before, but this one feels really big and important. Honestly, I’m more excited than anything!”

Her confidence in her music and the support from the Verknipt family fuels her anticipation.

“I’m very confident in my music and my style of playing, so I’m not worried about standing out in such an incredible lineup.”

Xenia’s fall tour schedule spans Europe and South America, a whirlwind of gigs that fills her with joy. Reflecting on the different energies she experiences in various countries, she notes,

“When it comes to the energy of the crowds, it’s so fascinating because every country, even each city, has its unique vibe. I feel so lucky to be able to travel and experience this diversity of energy—it’s always something new and exciting.”

Balancing her hectic touring schedule with producing new music presents its challenges, but Xenia embraces the creative fuel that comes from being on the road.

“Sometimes, I do feel like I don’t have enough time to stay in the studio because I’m traveling so much, especially with gigs across different continents, but I see touring as a way to get inspired.”

Though she doesn’t usually produce while traveling, the new gear she’s recently acquired may change that.

“I just got some new, super comfy pro headphones, so I’m taking them with me on tour now. Let’s see if they help me make some new sick tracks while I’m on the move!”

In the face of constant change, Xenia remains dedicated to evolving her sound.

“For as long as I can remember as a DJ, I’ve always gradually transitioned from lighter, slower sounds to something much more raw and hard. It’s been a steady evolution—starting with house, moving into driving techno, and eventually reaching a point where I feel I’ve embraced some of the hardest, most industrial sounds out there.”

She believes in the importance of continuous growth, noting,

“Change feels natural to me; it often comes from hearing a DJ set or a track that grabs my attention, and suddenly I’m inspired to weave that energy into my music.”

As the interview draws to a close, it becomes evident that Xenia is not only a powerful force in the industrial techno scene but also a thoughtful and genuine individual. She’s an artist who approaches her craft with intention, constantly seeking new ways to connect with her audience and stay true to her evol ving sound. Through Fire Mode, she’s creating a space for innovation and collaboration.

It’s hard not to feel a deeper appreciation for her craft and her relentless drive. Her commitment to pushing the boundaries of industrial techno is more than just a career choice—it’s a personal mission. Whether she’s digging deep into the darkest sounds or carefully crafting her tracks with precision, it’s clear that Xenia’s approach is rooted in an authentic love for music. Her passion comes alive not only through her productions but also in the way she speaks about her influences, creative processes, and the future she envisions for the genre.

For Xenia, techno is not just a genre; it’s a reflection of her inner world. Her experiences, both personal and professional, have shaped the intensity and raw power that pulses through her music. Every beat, every dark melody, is a testament to the journey she’s undertaken—from the early days of discovering acid sounds to her current place as a respected force in the industrial techno scene. The challenges she’s faced have only fueled her desire to innovate, to continue evol ving, and to bring something new to the table each time she steps into the studio or onto the stage.

Ultimately, Xenia’s story is one of passion, perseverance, and unyielding creativity. As she moves forward, it’s clear that her influence will continue to grow, shaping not only the techno scene but inspiring a new generation of artists to follow in her footsteps. With “Fire Mode” leading the charge, Xenia is ready to leave an indelible mark on the future of electronic music, and for those who have followed her journey, the best is yet to come.
